HELP RE-BUILD AND RE-OPEN THE KITENGA SCHOOL FOR GIRLS!
by Girls Education Collaborative
Two years ago an amazing school for girls opened in rural Tanzania - The Kitenga School for Girls.
On Thursday, August 16th the dormitory had a serious fire. Luckily, the students, Sisters and staff escaped unharmed. Everyone got out of the building with 'the clothes on their backs'. Unfortunately - all contents of the building were lost. The dorm is now uninhabitable.
The Sisters had to make the hard decision to send the girls home for 2 weeks. While the students are gone, we are rolling up our sleeves and getting to work on creating a safe environment for the girls to continue their education. Work has already begun on creating temporary dorm rooms in the recently completed (but not yet in use) classrooms built by GEC. These classrooms need to be turned into bedrooms - so that 70 students can return to classes on AUGUST 31, 2018.
We need to raise $25,000 to re-OPEN the school: First there is the emergency work around converting classrooms to dorms (i.e adding showers, bathrooms, solar electrification, security fencing) and then, replacing everything else that was lost: mattresses, bedding, mosquito nets, uniforms, school books and more.
100% of your gift goes directly to the emergency 're-OPEN & re-BUILD Fund' being sponsored by GEC. All of your dollars will go immediately to work to reopen the school.
We are asking everyone that can, to help get these girls back to the school they love. Any size gift will make a huge difference! If we surpass our goal (and I hope we do!) it will go towards re-BUILDING the dorm.
There's Nothing a Girl Can't Do! So please join us in getting the Kitenga School for Girls back to the important work of educating these extraordinary young ladies!
PS: These are girls who mostly live from communities where if they are not in school they may be forced into child marriage or dropping out of school to help their families. Many of their families live in critical poverty. These girls want their education. They seek better futures. Let's get them back into school!
